See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.

The pub is in a Georgian building dating from around 1800 and lies a short distance from the town centre, close to the racecourse and castle. Its name derives from the price of a cup of coffee and tot of rum that was charged to workers building the nearby Grand Union Canal rather than six pennies in other establishments in the early 1800s. There is a selection of traditional pub classics and old favourites, as well as daily specials. On Sundays, roasts served with fresh vegetables, home-made Yorkshire puddings and gravy. The single, split-level room has a contemporary feel and a relaxed atmosphere, enhanced by the absence of machines. There is a large outside seating area.
