Shrewsbury & Wem Brewery which had an estate of over 200 pubs was situated at the rear of the Castle until was closed in 1988 by (the late unlamented) Greenall Whitley

Expansive two bar pub, the public bar is to the right, the lounge / restaurant bit is to the left with a snug at the rear between the two. Quiz nights are held on the first Sunday of the month. There is a TV at the rear of the public bar, but is not obtrusive. The background music is usually just that. Food nights such as a curry and a pint and all you can eat buffets at reasonable prices are held regularly. The popular monthly quiz is usually held on the first Sunday of the month, and "open the box" every Friday at 9pm. Live music is staged occasionally.

Occasional "all you can eat buffets" are held. Food is not served on Monday or Sunday evening. Fields teams for the local darts and dominoes leagues and are active participants in local community events. Dogs are permitted in the right hand bar only. Disabled access is easiest via the back door. May close at 1am Friday & Saturday if busy enough.

The bell-box at the rear of the public bar is noteworthy.
