The leasing of the White Hart by the local group Darwin Inns from Admiral Taverns in September 2011, has provided an interesting change of management. It's a Grade II Listed building of the early Jacobean period, with a wealth of exposed timber, but with some later alterations. The two roomed inside layout consists of a public bar and a lounge, and since the change of ownership it has gradually assumed a character of its own. Ellesmere undoubtedly needs a real ale outlet to provide a variation from the national Pubco's dominance of the town's pubs, so we are pleased to see a former Good Beer Guide favourite emerging as a popular and successful venue. It was first in the Guide in its third edition in 1976, and has made 21 appearances up to the last one in 1998. Was once owned by the Border Brewery of Wrexham. The marina on the Llangollen Canal is further down Birch Road, so the pub is popular with boaters. New management February 2022. Has one cider on handpump and two bag in the box. These are likely to be from Lilleys and Westons which are not "real" as defined by CAMRA. Food is not served, but customers are weoome to bring their own. The house beer is unavailable at present because Plan B have suspended brewing while they move to new premises. The guest beer range comes from far and wide and often includes beers not usually seen locally. Real ales are of top quality and keenly priced.
