See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.

An unspoilt pub which is popular with the local workforce (especially the Royal Mail workers from across the road). There's a large bar/lounge area and a through bar at the back. Very much a good old-fashioned sports pub - multiple dart-boards, pool tables, dominoes tables, and a plethora of sporting trophies line the walls. ID required for the under 25's. A significant event for the pub is that it was the venue for the inaugural meeting of the Shrewsbury Branch of CAMRA in April 1974 (as recalled by the then Branch Secretary!). Around that time also, in 1975, it made its one and only appearance in the Good Beer Guide! Entries were brief in those days, but here's what it said - "A friendly local with an upstairs room for meetings". Apparently one could take Bass/Worthington Bitter and M&B Mild at the time. An unusual pub name, its derivation is uncertain. There are currently only 6 open examples in What Pub, curiously the other 5 are all in South Wales, perhaps that is a clue? A renovation in 2015 resulted in the front door moving a few yards down the street, which may confuse infrequent visitors for a while! Once noted for it's cask mild, sadly rarely seen these days. Happy hour prices until 7pm.
