The misleading address, being Wrexham, confuses the fact that this establishment is the last English watering hole before the Welsh border travelling north on the A5. As part of the Moreton Park development, which includes a Garden Centre and Hotel, it's a large pub with several separate areas. The whole thing is tastefully done out and is comfortable. While there is an emphasis on dining, this is not at the expense of drinkers who have a pleasant and comfortable retreat in the snug bar, and which is blessed with comfortable seating. The pub opens at 8am, offering a breakfast service for the hotel guests and visitors, but the bar doesn't open until later in the morning. Perhaps surprisingly, the beer price is comparable with those available locally. And just a footnote about Gledrid. It is derived from the Welsh "galed ryd" meaning "difficult ford", and is another reminder that the very penetrable national frontier is close by!
