See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
In a Grade 2 listed building, this is the most recent of Bishop's Castle's band of five free houses (2012). It's not pretentious but is a friendly enough place to loiter. The front bar is quite plain with a pool table to cater for the younger clientele, but the "Saloon Bar" to the rear, with its carpeting and low beams, presents a more comfortable ambience. The grounds include 5 locally built wooden camping pods for those interested in glamping. Visitors to the Gents may find it a nostalgic experience due to the displays of old cartoon strips on the walls (see picture). The pub also participates in the annual Bishop's Castle beer festival held each July. Note that the pub may close earlier on Sundays.
