This is a fairly large and well used local situated on the main road midway between Shrewsbury and Welshpool. The location gives the village its name, the 9 miles or so to each town being the distance a sheep drover could cover in a day. There is a comprehensive food menu with Sunday Roast served 12noon to 4pm every Sunday, and taken in the separate dining room. There is a relaxed and well stocked public bar area for the locals and passers by and a games room available to them. It was an early Good Beer Guide entry in 1975. Unusually a separate pub is attached, now converted into a period guest house with 5 bedrooms. The pub serves 2 changing guest beers, usually a local one and one from a national brewery. The pub also has its own caravan site. Plans to renovate and re-open announced December 2020. Subsequently an apllication to convert to a nursery was made in June 2023.
