Golden LionGeorge St
See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
Very close to the town centre and a short walk from the station, the pub is a busy free house owned and run by some of its locals. Music is very much the theme with an extensive juke box collection of classic numbers, and it's common for spontaneous dancing and singing to add to the friendly and lively atmosphere. It has active darts and dominoes teams, a large single lounge bar where there's sometimes live open mic music on Wednesday evenings. Two or three reasonably priced real ales from local, regional and national breweries and a cider, along with pork pies. Level access through the side gate on request (otherwise kept locked) and level throughout. No adapted WCs.
