After over 4 years of closure, this large, imposing old pub in a pleasant rural setting re-opened in May 2019 under new ownership and after extensive refurbishment. The main building is connected to more recently added outbuildings to form a U-shape around a central courtyard.
The atmospheric public bar comprises two linked rooms either side of a wood-burning stove in the oldest part of the pub. A very smart bright ~50-seater restaurant is linked to the public bar via a 'reception' and overlooks the courtyard through picture windows; a separate small secluded 10-seater dining room is off to one side. Further round the courtyard, beyond the restaurant, is Sam's Bar, which incorporates a pizza oven and another bar (but no real ale!). The listed meal times are for the restaurant, but pizzas are available every day from 12 noon to 10pm, and breakfasts are offered from 8.30am to 11am on Saturdays and Sundays. There are several menus, including children’s, gluten-free and vegan, plus Sunday specials.
The Church of Holy Angels, a ‘mini-cathedral’ built by the Meynell Ingram family in the 1890s, is nearby.
